Tommy Gann is an ABS Journeyman Smith and custom knifemaker. He came to me after his former web developer resigned. I updated his site's code to replace table-based layout with CSS, and added Lightbox, a piece of image viewing software. The design remains that of the previous designer, which is why it is not featured here. Pictured above is the new logo I designed for Tommy's business.

Grand Forks Public Library site. <http://www.grandforksgov.com/library/index.html>
This was my first web design project. The Grand Forks Public Library generously allowed me to redesign their website while on internship for my Master's Degree from UNC Chapel Hill. This was the first site I designed; I am currently in talks with library administration about collaborating on a new, more accessible design.

Me and the Cap'n

A while back I wrote this letter to Cap'n Crunch © regarding some suspect grammar they were employing on a cereal box.

Here is their reply.

The glorious Oreo

Emboldened by my success from the previous letter, I wrote another one.

No reply as of yet.

These are commissioned images. I wish to note that the macabre subject matter was not of my choosing. These images depict aspects of the Ukrainian Holodomor, or Terror-Famine, in which millions of people died during the first half of the 20th century. Starvation and brutality were commonplace. In these images, I tried to allude to that pain and suffering without resorting to gory details. I chose details of faces and hands, rather than more specific depictions of suffering.

The images below were not commissioned. I made these just for fun. The recurring squid motif is deliberate: I have always been fascinated by sea life, and to me there is nothing quite as alien as the squid. From an artistic perpective, the squid is a fine counterpoint to the much more familar human form, and provides a lot of options when composing an image.

Bob Purvis is a custom knifemaker located in Tucson, Arizona. The site is meant to retail custom knives, as well as to serve as an online portfolio of his previous work. Bob wanted a simple site that featured high quality photos of his work, combining photos from multiple angles. This site uses Google Adwords for advertising, Google Merchant for online retail, and Google Analytics to track site traffic.

My professional librarian site. <http://libstaffsites.uta.edu/staff/vossler/>
I am an Information Literacy Librarian, which is a confusing way of saying that I teach people how to find and use information. Often that means working with computers. I wanted a web site with a fun, modern design that would appeal to undergraduate students. This site promotes my academic services, as well as those of my department.

Ronald Vossler is a humanities scholar and freelance writer located in East Grand Forks, Minnesota. His site needed an elegant, but somber tone in order to suit the tragic subject matter of much of his research. He requested the feather pen motif. This site uses Google Merchant for online retail and Google Analytics to track site traffic.

Hi. My name is Joshua Vossler, and I'm a web and graphic designer.
I work remotely with clients to create and maintain customized, visually appealing web sites for small businesses.

I'm a full service web developer. What you see below are sites I took from concept through development, including setup of web space, image creation or manipulation, and programming. After making a site for you, I am available to stay on to handle ongoing updates and technical support.

Let's make something great together.
